Shelly Jefferson Morton, LPC, RPT, NCC

FritillaryShelly Morton (Kamiak Creek Counseling & Play Therapy, LLC) is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia and a Registered Play Therapist.  She has over 19 years of counseling experience in a variety of settings.  In her private practice, she specializes in providing individual counseling services to children and adolescents.  

Shelly assists clients with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, stress, emotional regulation (i.e. anger management), self-esteem/self-confidence, social skill development, personal identity, and grief and loss.  She is a trauma-informed therapist and has training/experience in several therapy modalities to support clients as they develop the skills to successfully manage life’s difficulties.  This includes play therapy, expressive arts, sand tray, cognitive behavioral therapy, and more traditional “talk” therapies.  The interventions used in sessions are tailored to each individual client, based on their age, developmental level, motivation, and treatment goals. 

Anxiety Disorders – Shelly has experience providing Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy for OCD, Comprehensive Behavioral Treatment for trichotillomania (hair pulling), excoriation / dermatillomania (skin picking), and other Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRB’s), as well as other evidence-based treatments (i.e. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help clients with generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, selective mutism, and other anxiety disorders.  In addition, Shelly is a trained SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) therapist.

Autism Spectrum Disorder – Shelly has extensive experience working with children who have been diagnosed with high functioning autism disorder and is a Certified AutPlay Therapy Provider.  She enjoys supporting children/adolescents in social skill development, emotional regulation, and behavior management, as well as providing support to parents as they navigate the unique challenges of parenting a neurodiverse child.

Shelly is originally from Pennsylvania.  After living in several states, she and her husband have settled down in Georgia where she was a professional school counselor in Forsyth County Public Schools for 7 years prior to being in private practice full time.  When she is not helping her clients or attending trainings, she can most often be found outdoors – tending her butterfly garden, photographing nature, hiking in the mountains, and camping with her husband.
